Why Street Photography? - Chris Harrison

Why Street Photography?

I have always been a people photographer from glamour to portraits. I never even really knew what street photography was until about 2014/15. Very rarely I would make images on the street of people doing everyday things without really thinking about their use.

In late 2016 I actively decided to go out and shoot street photography ("SP") on purpose and ever since then it has become my main photography love.

I may have made an image of you and posted it on here, or FB or my Instagram. You maybe suspicious of that and you may even feel uncomfortable with that.

Please don't be.

SP has been around as long as cameras and for me personally it is the purest form of photography. By that I mean you only get one chance to get the image. A little like sports photography, once the moment has passed you won't get another chance. Also SP doesn't take into account that anyone else needs to see the images. Having said that, what's the point of making images if you don't show them to the world?

I love where I live. I love the city and the people. I want to record the clothes, the backdrops and the events and happenings that go on. They might not mean much now but in 10, 20, 50 years time these images will be a record of how times have changed.

All these images are shot with respect to the people in them

**The Law**

As it stands at the moment in the UK we all have the right to make photographs of anyone in a public place, and post them on the internet. Permission isn't needed, unless being used for commercial purposes.

Therefore, if you see yourself in one of my images and you want me to remove it then please ask-I will be happy to do so. On the other hand if you see yourself and you like the photograph, let me know that too, and I will get a print made for you.

Photography is for sharing and street photography is a tradition that will hopefully never die.

Please enjoy my images.
